What we will be learning about
At St Thomas’ we believe in following the children’s interests to prompt our planning. We have knowledge and skills for each area of the curriculum that we teach each half term but how we teach them depends on the children’s interests and ideas. We have vague over riding topics but these are steered completely by the children.

Curriculum Overview – EYFS

We plan using the Development Matters guidance. However, sometimes we also incorporate the Birth to 5 Matters guidance too. You can find out more about these documents by clicking the links below.

How you can help at home

We send regular updates of your child’s learning over Tapestry. We also update our webpage ‘Next Week’s Learning’ to explain what we will be learning about each week. You can also find out more ideas of how to support your child at home with the ‘What to Expect When in the Early Years Foundation Stage’. For more information, please click the link below.

St Thomas’ Primary School we have now started to use Tapestry to record and share observations of the children’s learning. Observations are taken during the children’s ‘Choosing Time’ where we challenge the children to independently develop their learning and skills further. Staff are their to scaffold the children’s learning through deeper level questioning and support when required.

Please find lots of information below about Tapestry. It explains more about the system and how to upload observations at home to share with the class.

Here are some recommended books for you to read or find online, which cover emotions in a child friendly way. With all the uncertainty and disruption to daily life, please keep talking about how everyone is feeling. It is perfectly fine to accept that it is a tricky time for all of us emotionally, big or small, and that this is ok. Keep smiling where possible! You are all doing an amazing job!
